The UK’s five best theme parks for thrill-seekers and families alike

The UK’s theme parks may lack scale compared to some of their American counterparts, but their host of iconic locations more than make up for it in character and quality.

From record-breaking rollercoasters to family-friendly classics, Britain’s top theme parks offer something for every kind of thrill-seeker.

Here, Travel News Blitz’s Sam Condy lists five of the best theme parks in the UK worth building a trip around.

Alton Towers

Set deep in the Staffordshire countryside, Alton Towers is far and away the UK’s best-known Theme park.

Home to some of the world's most iconic rides, such as Nemesis, Oblivion, and The Smiler, it has long pushed the boundaries of coaster design.

Its unique atmosphere and world-renowned reputation make it a must-visit destination for thrill seekers touring the area.

Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park is all about adrenaline.

Located just outside London, it makes it the perfect thrill-seeking day out for those touring the UK’s capital city.

Boasting some of the UK’s most intense rides, including Stealth, Colossus and SAW: The Ride, it favours fast, loud, and unapologetically terrifying attractions, making it not one for the faint of heart.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

A true British institution, Blackpool Pleasure Beach may not be the most technically advanced theme park on the list, but the Iconic seaside attraction is still very much worth a visit.

The Big One remains one of the most iconic coasters in Europe, while newer rides like ICON show the park is still keeping up with the times.

The Pleasure Beach is steeped in tradition and Seaside charm, and is a must-visit for those looking to experience a traditional British day out.

Chessington World of Adventures

Focus more on family fun than those listed above, Chessington not only boasts themed rides, but is also home to both a Zoo and an aquarium.

Most of its rides are on the smaller side - ideal for families looking for their first taste of rollercoaster action.

It's easily accessible from London, making it yet another spot that is ideal for a quick day trip during a holiday in the big city.

Legoland Windsor

Designed with families firmly in mind, Legoland Windsor is arguably the most creative theme park in the UK.

From intricately built Lego cities to gentle rides and interactive attractions, it delivers fun without fear for those on the younger side.

It’s colourful, imaginative, and perfectly suited to a slower-paced but memorable theme park visit.
