Seven things to do and see in Silverstone as Formula 1 races at this historic circuit

Nestled in Northamptonshire is the home of British motorsport, which has been here since Formula 1’s beginnings in 1950, as in 2025 they celebrate 75 years of the sport.

Formula 1 races at the Silverstone circuit for 52 laps, with iconic corners such as Maggotts, Becketts, Stowe and Abbey as part of this high speed track.

Here, Travel News Blitz’s Ayla Vaughan explores seven things to do and see in Silverstone.

Silverstone Museum

Silverstone Museum is an immersive museum, telling the story of the past, present and future of British motor racing - with both sports cars and open-wheel cars. 

Visitors can enjoy sitting in a replica grand prix car, learning to pilot a WWII plane and driving in a racing simulator around Silverstone.

On display are also racing helmets and race suits which people can admire and see how much they have changed over time due to developments in safety and technology.

Catanger Llamas Trekking

If you’re looking to have a break from the high speed and adrenaline of racing, Catanger llamas trekking is a perfect escape in the lush forests and greenery of Northamptonshire with these fluffy creatures.

To remember your amazing experience, there are a variety of items available in their 'Llamarabilia' gift shop on the Catanger farm and if you’re lucky you can see the adorable mums and babies during the summer months. 

Towcester Mill Brewery

Towcester Mill Brewery is an award-winning brewery and tap room with a large garden based in an 18th century Towcester Mill, transporting you back to the Georgian era. 

Visitors can enjoy real ale, craft ales and craft ciders as well as monthly live comedy nights, open mic and quiz nights - with street food vendors also outside if you’re hungry.

Watch the British Grand Prix

Formula 1 races at Silverstone from July 4-6 and is the home race of several F1 drivers and teams such as Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Lando Norris, Ollie Bearman, Aston Martin and Williams.

Silverstone is a staple of the F1 calendar with the 5.891 km track being a favourite of many drivers due to its high speed corners and two long straights with DRS zones.

Towcester Museum

Towcester Museum tells the story of this small town in Northamptonshire over 5,000 years through its fascinating artefacts, family friendly activities, life-like dioramas and detailed models.

Exhibitions include items from the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman Empire, Anglo-Saxon period to the Great Fire of Towcester and Georgian period to the 21st century.

Towcester Castle (Bury Mount)

Towcester Castle (Bury Mount) is the remains of an earthwork motte and bailey ancient castle, which likely dates back to the 11th century when it was a Norman fortification.

In the 17th century it became the winter headquarters of the Royalists (supporters of King Charles I and Charles II in the English Civil War) and was converted into a platform for two cannons.

SUKU Saunas

SUKU Saunas is a Scandinavian inspired wild sauna and cold plunge experience set in a hundred acres of parkland in Northamptonshire. 

Visitors can enjoy an hour-long session where they sweat, chat and unplug in the beautiful surroundings of the countryside.
