Seven things to do and see in St Louis as IndyCar visits World Wide Technology Raceway

St Louis is a major city in Missouri along the Mississippi River known for its iconic monuments, blues music and tasty barbecue.

IndyCar races at World Wide Technology Raceway for 260 laps at this oval circuit with its unique shape and varying degrees of banking in each corner.

Here, Travel News Blitz’s Ayla Vaughan searches for seven things to do and see in St Louis.

The Gateway Arch

The Gateway Arch is a famous monument in St Louis and is 630-foot-tall (192 metres), clad in stainless steel and built in the form of an arch.

Attractions include a tram ride to the top of the Gateway Arch, the museum at the Gateway Arch, shopping at the arch store and an arch cafe.

City Museum

The City Museum is a very unique museum as it has four floors filled with miles of tunnels, a full cave system, over 30 slides, a large outdoor climbing space and more.

It stands out once you walk by as its roof has a ferris wheel and a bus hanging off its edge, making it unlike any museum you have ever visited.

Missouri Botanical Garden

The Missouri Botanical Garden was founded in 1859 by Henry Shaw and is a great escape from the high speed racing or the bustling streets of St Louis.

Its herbarium (a collection of dry plants) has more than 6.6 million specimens, making it the second largest in North America, and its Peter H. Raven Library contains 85% coverage of all literature ever published on botany.

Also, it features 79 acres of horticultural displays, including indoor conservatories and demonstration, formal and international gardens.

Grant’s Farm

Grant's Farm is a historic farm built by Ulysses S. Grant (the 18th president of the United States) and has also served as a residence of various members of the Busch family.

You can visit the farm animals, buy merchandise from their gift shop, go on a tram ride, feed animals and go on carousel rides.

The Fabulous Fox Theatre

The Fabulous Fox Theatre first opened in 1929 as a movie palace in William Fox's motion picture empire (now known as 20th Century Fox) and its architecture was inspired by India.

Visitors can enjoy live touring Broadway shows, concerts and comedians - with musical staples performed here such as Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery

Anheuser-Busch Brewery opened in the 1850s and is the company’s flagship brewery, being the headquarters of Anheuser-Busch and the home of Budweiser.

The historic brewery features various tours, a beer museum, a biergarten, a gift shop and classes - making it a must visit spot for beer lovers.
