Travel guide: A love letter to Cyprus - Where to stay, what to eat and more
From Aphrodite to breathtaking beaches, there is a reason Cyprus is called the island of love, because you will fall in love with it all, writes Travel News Blitz’s Harry Perdios.
Picture this, a refreshing, salt-laced breeze slipping through your hair, an iced-cold piña colada grazing your lips, and the peaceful hush of the waves on the golden coastline.
This isn’t the Maldives, nor the Bahamas. This is Cyprus, the Jewel of the Mediterranean.
Beneath the fragrant citrus trees and the blue shutters that remind you of the clear sky above, the island beats with life.
Whether it’s a romantic walk along the Ayia Napa marina, which makes boats look like they're glistening like diamonds on the shore.
Something for everyone
Or a hike through the picturesque Troodos mountains, there is truly something for everyone.
Located in the East Mediterranean, by the end of your trip, you will call Cyprus home.
The welcoming culture from Cypriots can be found across the island, so if you prefer a seafront villa or a farmhouse hidden away, you’re never too far from becoming a local during your stay.
Each district on the island offers a brand-new adventure and charm, so much so that the only real challenge you’ll face on your trip will be deciding which corner of the island you will make your own.
Located on the southeast of the Island, Ayia Napa is home to an amusement park in the centre of the town and a waterpark on the outskirts with over 30 rides and attractions.
There is plenty to keep you occupied all day and night.

Crystal-clear waters and stretches of golden beaches like Nissi Beach line the coast, perfect for those looking to snorkel, sunbathe and relax in bliss.
Tucked away from the old town, the Ayia Napa strip is a great street for young adults, hoping for an unforgettable evening with flowing drinks and great music.
Protaras, only a 10-minute drive away from Ayia Napa, has a variety of holiday resorts to choose from, with the dreamlike Fig Tree Bay beach on your doorstep.
Explore the historic Cape Greco sea caves and dive into the glass-like waters that make Protaras a stunning seaside escape.
You may even see a sea turtle or two among the diverse sea life the island has to offer.
Paphos, located on the west coast of the island, is home to Aphrodite’s Rock, which dates to the ancient Greek Gods.
Family-friendly resorts
With plenty of family-friendly resorts, the town is ideal for families and history lovers looking for a refreshing getaway.
Located an hour and a half from Larnaca airport, the Troodos mountains line the core of the island. With picturesque views and a well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of life.
In winter, Troodos transforms into a winter escape, marking Cyprus as one of the only places in the world where you can go from sunny beaches to snowy skiing resorts in only an hour.
The island’s capital, Nicosia, is a 45-minute drive away from Larnaca airport.
The capital has plenty of unique coffee shops and restaurants to choose from whilst you discover the history it has to offer.
Nicosia is the World’s last divided capital. The UN-patrolled city remains split into the Southern (Greek Cypriot) and Northern (Turkish Cypriot) sections, after the Turkish invasions in 1974.
It is possible to access the northern side through the UN entry point. Passports are required to access Northern Cyprus from the South.
Perfect location
Located an hour away from Paphos, the Baths of Aphrodite is rumoured to be previously inhabited by the goddess Aphrodite.
Limassol is the perfect location to visit if you fancy a taste of Dubai. With striking skyscrapers and a stunning marina, the district is an unforgettable location for city lovers.
Food across the island is truly second to none. From long, leisurely Mezes to fresh souvlaki, Cyprus invites you to immerse yourself in the rich flavours of the Mediterranean.
Even the potatoes stand out, grown in rich soil in the endless sunshine, they are often said to be the best in the world.

For all you coffee lovers, a chilled frappé is a must-try. Trust me on this, it’s more than a drink, it’s an experience. It’s another reason you will fall in love with Cyprus.
