Travel tips: Three things you should do to get used to solo travelling

Are you used to doing things alone? If not, would you like to do it?

Travelling alone, especially going abroad, may sound scary for you. Don’t start with big things; start small - what you can do in your free time within one day.

Travel News Blitz’s Moe Ikeda introduces the step-by-step guide to preparing your mind for travelling alone.

1: Go to a cafe and spend your time alone with coffee

This is the first step to getting used to enjoying your time alone. You can try it today!

In a cafe, you can not only drink coffee but also read, listen to radio programmes, knit, crochet, and study. It helps you to notice that spending your time alone is not hard and find your way to have fun by yourself.

By exploring cafes around where you live, you can get to know your neighbourhood well and find your cosy spots to escape your daily life.

 2: Go to a cinema

Do you have experiences where a movie your friends would like to watch did not match what you would like to watch?

Watching movies alone is a great option to enjoy your time without caring about others.

There are benefits to going to a cinema by yourself. You can choose a seat without discussing with your friends and bask in the afterglow of a movie.

3:Explore your neighbourhoods and go into shops or restaurants you find

Have you ever explored around your home by yourself without planning? This may be helpful for you to get used to exploring new places as a tourist.

There may be many streets you have never walked, even if you have lived there for a while. On hidden streets, you will find cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and shops run and loved by locals.

Eating at a restaurant by yourself sounds scary? It is not dealing with loneliness; it’s a treat for yourself by not cooking.

If you get used to doing it, you never feel nervous about doing it from next time, even if it is in a foreign country.

The next step is...a day trip?

If you get used to doing these three things above, you can easily start solo travelling in your life, from a day trip!

Solo travelling sounds sad and lonely, but it enriches your life. Please do not be afraid to spend time by yourself.
