Seven things to do and see in Singapore as Formula 1 races in the Lion City

Singapore is an island country in Southeast Asia where it’s always summer, making it the perfect holiday destination this fall.

Formula 1 races at the Marina Bay Circuit for 62 laps at a tight and twisty city track, where qualifying means everything as overtaking is hard.

Here, Travel News Blitz’s Ayla Vaughan explores seven things to do and see in Singapore.

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay spans a total of 101 hectares of prime land at Marina Bay, comprising three waterfront gardens - Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central.

This large green space in the city showcases horticulture and garden artistry (inside and outside), even lighting up at night with numerous exhibitions and artworks.

Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore is a must-visit location, with the theme park featuring 24 rides and attractions, such as the Accelerator, Silly Swirly, Canopy Flyer and many more.

Themed dining and shops are also available, allowing you to make the most of your day riding rollercoasters in the sets of your favourite films.

Merlion Park

Standing at 8.6 metres high and weighing 70 tonnes, the Merlion statue has a lion’s head and a fish’s body, and is located in this 2,500 square metre park.

Whilst cooling down, explore the nearby Central Business District with its many stunning and modern skyscrapers, restaurants and shops.

Watch the Singapore Grand Prix

Formula 1 continues to race in Asia, visiting Singapore from October 3-5 for the night race, after an exciting Baku GP where Carlos Sainz scored his first podium for Williams.

This street track is known for being one of the most physically demanding on the calendar due to its bumpy street surface and humid conditions, causing them to lose as much as 3kg in body weight over the course of a race.

Singapore Flyer

At 165 metres tall, the Singapore Flyer is a Ferris wheel that showcases the cosmopolitan cityscape of the tropical Lion City, as well as the surrounding islands of Indonesia and parts of Malaysia in all their glory.

Guests can also savour the iconic Singapore Sling drink whilst hosted in a special themed capsule for the F1 race or experience the Premium Sky Dining Flight (a four-course dinner).

Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum

The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple was founded in 2002 and is dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha, which means 'The Compassionate One', with tours available every Saturday at 2 pm.

Inside, they offer a ‘Discovering Buddhism' programme, designed for participants to gain an experiential taste of Chinese Mahayana Buddhist etiquette, Basic Buddhist teachings and Basic Meditation within a day.

Marina Bay

Marina Bay is a must-visit area in Singapore known for its luxury hotels and upscale shopping, perfect to explore during the day before F1 starts racing in these streets at night.

This includes the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the iconic Marina Bay Sands integrated resort (with its distinctive SkyPark), ArtScience Museum and entertainment at the Esplanade Theatre.
