Seven things to do and see in Milwaukee as IndyCar races in the Brew City
Milwaukee is a city in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan's western shore, known for its breweries, many of which offer tours chronicling its role in the beer industry.
IndyCar races the Milwaukee Mile for 250 laps at this oval track that is set on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park from August 23-24.
Here, Travel News Blitz’s Ayla Vaughan explores seven things to do and see in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Art Museum
The Milwaukee Art Museum is housed in iconic buildings by Santiago Calatrava, Eero Saarinen and David Kahler on a 24-acre lakefront campus.
The Museum is Wisconsin’s largest arts institution and home to collections spanning from antiquity to the present, with artwork from Georgia O'Keeffe, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Francesco Botticini, László Moholy-Nagy and many more.
Pabst Mansion
Pabst Mansion features 37 rooms, 12 baths and 14 fireplaces, all built in the Flemish Renaissance style in 1892 for sea captain and beer baron Captain Frederick Pabst.
Visitors will see and learn about the Pabst Mansion and family, who would later establish the Pabst Brewing Company which still operates today.
Lakefront Brewery
Lakefront Brewery was opened in December 1987 by brothers Russ and Jim Klisch and sold their first batch of Riverwest Stein Amber Lager to a neighborhood tavern in Milwaukee.
Ever since then, they have grown to brew 46,848 barrels of beer using all Wisconsin-grown ingredients in 2017 and distribute their products to 35 States, Canada, Ukraine, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Australia and many more.

Watch the Milwaukee Mile
IndyCar visits this one-mile oval course with nine-degree banking in the turns, which produces some of the most exciting racing, creating overtaking opportunities in the turns as well as the straights.
The Milwaukee Mile opened in 1903 and little has changed to the configuration, with the most recent winners being Pato O’Ward (who is currently second in the championship) and Scott McLaughlin (a Penske driver who has struggled this year).
American Family Field
If you’re looking to watch another great American sport, visit the home of the Milwaukee Brewers to experience baseball in this state-of-the-art stadium.
The American Family Field was opened in 2001 and features North America's only fan-shaped convertible roof, which can open and close in less than 10 minutes.
Milwaukee Public Museum
Milwaukee Public Museum houses more than four million objects of natural and human history in 150,000 square feet.
These include a 14,500-year-old woolly mammoth skeleton, the Dietz Typewriter collection, Apache playing cards, the DeFlores Disney collection, birdwing butterflies and the Nunnemacher Arms collection.
They also house The Daniel M. Soref Dome Theater & Planetarium which transports you into outer space with a magnificent 45-minute giant screen film.
Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory
The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, better known as The Milwaukee Domes, is a living museum that has thousands of wild and wonderful plants inside - dating back to 1898 and being inspired by London's famous Crystal Palace.
The three main categories of plants are tropical, desert and floral - with each classification having their own dome that has a unique style, feel and look.
