NFL travel news: Seven of the best things to do in Buffalo
It might be known for its die-hard football fans, but there's plenty more to do in the city on the shores of Lake Erie.
Buffalo might be best known for its diehard Bills Mafia and frozen football games at Highmark Stadium, but there’s a lot more to love about this city on the shores of Lake Erie.
From iconic eats to natural wonders, here Travel News Blitz's Sam Condy shares seven of the best things to do in Buffalo during NFL season.
Highmark Stadium
The home of the Buffalo Bills is one of the most intimidating and passionate venues in all of sports.
Famed for its tailgating experience, nobody quite brings the energy and passion like the ‘Bills Mafia’.
If you struggle for tickets, a tour of the stadium, and catching the action in a nearby sports bar will certainly tick all the boxes.
Niagara Falls
Just a 25-minute drive north, Niagara Falls is a must-visit when in Buffalo.
You can walk the observation decks for panoramic views, hop on the Maid of the Mist boat tour, or make the short journey to Canada for an even closer look at the world-famous waterfall.
It’s one of North America’s most breathtaking sights, and it would be almost criminal to skip out on a visit here when nearby.

Anchor Bar
You can’t visit Buffalo without tasting the city’s greatest creation: the Buffalo wing.
Anchor Bar claims to be the birthplace of the dish, and while there's plenty of debate surrounding that claim, they certainly have the flavour on lock.
Grab a plate of wings, a cold beer, and soak up the local pride.
Canalside
Downtown Buffalo’s waterfront district has been completely revitalised.
With a winter ice rink, kayak experiences, and plenty of outdoor concerts, there is always something to grab your attention in Canalside.
Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park
This waterfront museum is famed for its Naval exhibits, and features an array of ships and submersibles to explore up close.
It’s an often overlooked attraction, but it offers a glimpse into the city's industrial culture.
Elmwood Village
For a taste of local life, head to Elmwood Village; it's full of cafés, boutiques, and craft breweries, and is perfect for a laid-back afternoon after a week of touring.
Having been rated as one of America's ten best neighbourhoods, its laid-back charm will leave you searching Zoopla after an afternoon exploring its streets.
KeyBank Center
If you’re in town outside of NFL season, Buffalo’s passion for sport carries over to hockey.
Head to the KeyBank Centre to cheer for the Buffalo Sabres or attend a live concert if you're visiting outside hockey season.
